Blesbok

Blesbok / Damaliscus philipsi

Information

Habitat:

A common species. A beautiful animal. Endemic to and plentifully available in RSA, Namibia and Botswana

Size:

A typical male is 100 cm tall at the withers and weighs up to 70 kg. The record of horns is 51 cm.

Habits:

Forms herds. A solitary individual is rather an exception.

Hunting advice:

It is most often hunted by stalking on land or by drinking pools. Aim at the chest.

Caliber:

We recommend a caliber of minimum .30-06 with 11,7-gram bullet.

Trophy:

The horns, some also process the skin but we do not consider it fit. A chest mount is very beautiful. We do not recommend taxidermy preparation in Africa. The Blesbok has two glands on its face /bleses/ which constantly ooze secretion, thus its name.

Location:

In all of our hunting destinations in Botswana and Namibia. Very similar as an exterior and trophy is the Bontebock antelope.
