Oryx
Oryx/ Oryx gazella
Habitat: |
A common species. A beautiful, strong animal. Its natural habitat, where it is widely spread, is Namibia, Botswana and Northern RSA. |
Size: |
A typical male is about 120 cm tall at the withers and weighs up to 240 kg.; a female weighs up to 220 kg. |
Habits: |
Forms large herds. It is rather an exception to come across a solitary animal. |
Hunting advice: |
Most often, it is hunted on land by stalking or at drinking places. Aim at the chest. It has the fame of an aggressive antelope, but I am not aware of any case when an Oryx has attacked back, even after being wounded. |
Caliber: |
We recommend a caliber of minimum.30-06 with a 11,7-gram bullet. |
Trophy: |
The horns, some also have the skin prepared but we don’t consider it fit. A chest mount is very beautiful. We do not recommend taxidermy preparation in Africa. The record of a horn is 122 cm. |
Location: |
In all hunting destinations we offer in Botswana and Namibia. We recommend hunting Oryx of Namibia – it is where we have harvested our largest and most beautiful trophies and where the species is most widespread. |
