Roan
Roan/ Hippotragus equinus
Habitat: |
It is not a common species. Currently, it is the most expensive antelope in the world. It is rarely encountered in Namibia, the Zambezi valley in Zambia, in Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Naturally, it is encountered in fenced territories in Namibia and RSA, too. In the bush and the savannas. A massive and beautiful antelope. |
Size: |
A typical male is about 150 cm tall at the withers and weighs up to 300 kg.; a female weighs up to 220 kg. |
Habits: |
Does not gather in large herds, but rather in a family community. |
Hunting advice: |
It is hunted most often on land by stalking, or at drinking places. Aim at the chest. It may attack you only if wounded and from an immediate proximity. |
Caliber: |
We recommend a caliber of minimum .30-06 with an 11,7-gram bullet. A better option is 8х68S and up. |
Trophy: |
The horns, some prepare also the skin but we do not consider it fit. A chest mount is very beautiful. We do not recommend preparation in Africa. The record of a horn is 99 cm. |
Location: |
In all hunting destinations we offer in Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe. We recommend Roan hunt in Zimbabwe, where we have achieved our largest and most beautiful trophies and the population is the largest. |
